  • News flashFor all patients, MRI scan referrals from Sports Physicians are now eligible for a rebate from Medicare when performed at a rebatable MRI machine. Not all MRI machines are rebatable under the Federal Health regulations and unfortunately GP and Physiotherapist MRI referrals are not eligible for a rebate at these specific machines.

    For new patients after 1st Nov 2010, a referral from a GP will be required.

Sports Physician

dr-paul-bloomfieldDr Paul Bloomfield is a Sports Physician. After graduating from the University of New South Wales in 1992 he completed post graduate training in sports medicine with the Australasian College of Sports Physicians (A.C.S.P.) and was awarded his Fellowship in 2000.

He has been working at Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre in the Sydney Academy of Sport on Sydney’s northern beaches since1994. Dr Bloomfield also consults at Sydney Physiotherapy and Orthopaedics in Sydney. His main consulting rooms remain at Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre.

Dr Bloomfield has extensive experience with various sports and has been involved with numerous elite and professional teams. He is the current team doctor for the Manly Sea Eagles NRL rugby league team (since 2000) and was the team doctor for the Northern Spirit NSL soccer club throughout its entire history. He has also worked extensively with the Australian Men’s Volleyball Team and was the assistant medical officer for the St. George Rugby League team prior to joining Manly. Other sport coverage has included numerous Brooks Triathlon series at Kurnell, mountain bike and skateboard competitions, Biggest Loser 2009 and the Soccer Australia senior men’s team.

Patients from all levels of sporting participation, from the sedentary to recreational and elite athletes, are welcome to make appointments for consultation in all aspects of sports medicine. Dr Bloomfield consults on all musculoskeletal injuries, both acute and chronic, as well as medical conditions relating to exercise. A special interest in all lower limb injuries (including knee, ankle and foot) as well as orthotics is maintained, however all upper limb, spinal and lower limb injuries and chronic conditions are welcomed for assessment and management.
