  • News flashFor all patients, MRI scan referrals from Sports Physicians are now eligible for a rebate from Medicare when performed at a rebatable MRI machine. Not all MRI machines are rebatable under the Federal Health regulations and unfortunately GP and Physiotherapist MRI referrals are not eligible for a rebate at these specific machines.

    For new patients after 1st Nov 2010, a referral from a GP will be required.

There are many reasons why exercise is beneficial for health in seniors:

  • Reduced cholesterolexercise_for_seniors
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Weight loss
  • Decreased risk of coronary artery disease and stroke
  • Improvement of blood sugar control
  • Improved bone density
  • Improved muscle strength
  • Decreased risk of falls
  • Improved sense of well-being

The categories of physical activity to include are aerobic fitness, strength, flexibility and balance. Examples of suitable exercise are walking, dancing, tai chi, bowls, cycling, tennis and lifting weights.

Think of movement as an opportunity and try to accumulate at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days.
