  • News flashFor all patients, MRI scan referrals from Sports Physicians are now eligible for a rebate from Medicare when performed at a rebatable MRI machine. Not all MRI machines are rebatable under the Federal Health regulations and unfortunately GP and Physiotherapist MRI referrals are not eligible for a rebate at these specific machines.

    For new patients after 1st Nov 2010, a referral from a GP will be required.

Dr Sophie Armstrong qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) from Cardiff University, UK in 2006. Subsequently over the next four years worked in General Medicine, Orthopaedics, and Emergency Medicine in both the UK & Australia. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma from Bath University, UK in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2010 and expects to obtain her Masters Degree in 2012.

Sophie has been working at Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre at the Sydney Academy of Sport since 2011 as part of her Specialist Training with the Australasian College of Sports Physicians. She is currently the Team Doctor for Manly Sea Eagles NRL Reserve, Under 20, Under 18 and Under 16 teams. In addition, she has had involvement in soccer and AFL and is a medical provider for the NSW Institute of Sport.

Sophie has personal experience of elite sports having been an International Netball player with the Welsh Senior Squad. Prior to this, she captained her school, club, county, regional and University sides.

Sophie consults on all musculoskeletal injuries, acute and chronic, from all ages and levels of sporting participation.
