  • News flashFor all patients, MRI scan referrals from Sports Physicians are now eligible for a rebate from Medicare when performed at a rebatable MRI machine. Not all MRI machines are rebatable under the Federal Health regulations and unfortunately GP and Physiotherapist MRI referrals are not eligible for a rebate at these specific machines.

    For new patients after 1st Nov 2010, a referral from a GP will be required.

dr-david-carmodyDr David Carmody completed his medical degree at Sydney University in 1996, and passed his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2006. He was selected for further subspecialty Fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery in Bristol, UK  with Mr Ian Winson, president of the European Foot and Ankle Society, and a world leader in arthroscopic surgery of the Foot and Ankle. He also did further training in knee surgery in Lyon, France (Prof. Philippe Neyret) and Leuven, Belgium (Prof Johan Bellemans and Dr Jan Victor).

Dr Carmody’s main interest is conditions of the foot, ankle and knee. His fellowship training had an emphasis on arthroscopic techniques for treating arthritis and sports injuries. He also has expertise in fracture management of the foot and ankle. He can provide an expert opinion on conditions affecting the foot, ankle and knee including sports injuries, arthritis, instability, malalignment and tendon and cartilage problems.

He has published research in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and had papers presented at meetings throughout Australia and abroad. His research into spinal cord injuries in Australian footballers was rewarded with the “Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Applied Research in Sports medicine by a Research team” at the 2005 NSW Sports Safety Scheme Awards.

Dr Carmody is married with three children. He is a self-confessed sports tragic. He follows all the football codes, and continues to play cricket, tennis and golf.

Apart from being proudly affiliated with the Sydney Academy of Sport, Dr Carmody has consulting rooms at Chatswood, Dee Why, the Mater Clinic, North Sydney and the CBD. He has admitting rights and operates from the Mater Hospital, North Sydney, Castlecrag Private, North Shore Private and Delmar Private Hospitals. He has a public hospital appointment at Mona Vale Hospital.
